How ClearCost works
ClearCost aggregates publicly available hospital price transparency files, normalizes procedure codes, and helps patients compare estimated costs before care.
Data sources
- Hospital metadata and converted files indexed via hospitalpricingfiles.org / PRA APIs
- Original machine-readable files from hospital and vendor transparency pages
- CMS Care Compare quality metrics (in progress)
- Partner-provided anonymized itemized bills (PHI removed before ingest)
Privacy
We do not store protected health information. Partner bills must be anonymized before ingestion and are scanned for PHI patterns at the API boundary.
